Broken in less than a year August 21, 2010 Krongkaew Witoonchatree (Bethesda, MD USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R30DL9AD0BUOPA I had the g-luxe for less than a year and didn't really use it much. But after I started using it everyday for the past four months, the fabric on both the upper corners where the stitchs are was torn. First I tought it's probably my two years old was too heavy. He's 28 pounds. But when I look at the weight limit on the website, it said up to 40 pounds. Half Pint, the store that I bought it from, tried to contact the customer service for a week and there's no response. When I tried to email the customer service, the box only allow me to put less than 255 characters. I will update my review after I hear back from the customer service.
Best stroller for NYC(big city) August 20, 2010 Jerry (New York City) I read all these reviews before buying this stroller and I was worried. Turns out, didn't need to! The stoller is the stroller I use every day, 2-3 times a day for the last 11 months.
Very light, indeed, LIGHTER than the lightest Maclaren with a recline (they would say theirs is 11 lb, but it isn't with the canopy and so on, it is 12.2 lb). I have had no problem with the stoller collapsing on me and we've had it almost a year now.
I started off like most people -- I bought the UPPABaby Vista stroller: a large, loaded with features stroller with a bassinet, seat that turns around, large basket underneath, etc, etc. One very important thing I had overlooked is the weight of the stroller -- it has to be the NUMBER ONE consideration for someone who is going to go on and off of subway (a must in NYC). You have to be able to pick it up, baby and diaper bag and all, together, and go down stairs. Even if there are elevators, they are often in maintenance and people are not often helpful if you were going to wait for someone to help you down/up the stairs. If you can't pick it up, you will see how you won't get out just because of the intimidation factor. You may not think of this as much if you don't have a child, that's because you just can't imagine being stuck somewhere with a truck-like stroller you can't lift, screaming baby and late. So, my mother and I kept using this stroller for going out. The basket fit my diaper bag, I would hang the Ergobaby carrier on the handles and I could carry it without problem, with or without the baby. We only used the other, the Vista, when we went shopping, since it had a very big basket.
As for my baby, she hated both strollers, but notice the Vista is ~700 bucks and this is 160! When my daughter was ~8.5 months, she started to sit in the stroller and now ~11 months, she just started to fall asleep in it. Some babies do that from the start, but not mine so, before that I would just carry her in the Ergo and push the stroller with the diaper bag in front of me. This is one more reason you need a light stroller with a basket -- to get on and off subway when the baby is asleep in the front carrier.
All my friends have Maclarens (veteran mothers realize how important weight and small size is in the city) and I just luckily bought this one because I needed an umbrella stroller quickly for a friend who was visiting. They now think they were wrong, after seeing my stroller, since the basket is much larger (you can't put a diaper bag in a Maclaren), it is just as easy to maneuver, it has larger wheels than the quest (nice for going on the grass in the park), and it is lighter. And the warranty is 2 years :-)
I wish the canopy was larger, but, well, it is light and that is much more important. Not sure if I would carry a larger canopy if it would weigh it down.
Seemed great... then it broke! August 9, 2010 Farrone 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I love the features of this stroller, and particularly the lightweight frame. It seems comfortable, the extended shade is great, and it stands on its own. The basket is a little small, but since the stroller is so compact, that makes sense. The first problem we had was the little plastic tab used to break down the stroller snapped off. I was planning to see if there was a way to fix it, but then on Saturday my husband took the stroller out of the trunk and it was completely broken. There isn't anything else in the trunk that could have broken it, so I'm sure something happened the last time somebody folded the stroller up - it must be related to the broken tab. Okay, so it's possible this is more human error than stroller error, but it seems like the thing shouldn't have fallen apart so easily. We've only owned it about 4 months! Overall, I think the design is well-thought out, but obviously I have major concerns about the structure. I'm choosing a different lightweight stroller this time.
Get this one! July 25, 2010 alita (NY NY) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Love it! I have a bugaboo which I bought for the smooth ride/handling and also because the baby can face you. But for an umbrella stroller, the ride is almost as smooth as the heavy bug for a fraction of the price. The G-Luxe has four wheel suspension and large pressurized-foam filled wheels for a smooth ride, unlike the little cheap plastic tires of the Maclarens which feel like you are pushing a shopping cart through gravel. The canopy is very big. The fold is very easy. Seat reclines nicely. It's so light! The price is great. Don't buy the green color-it shows the dirt too much.
Great Lightweight Umbrella Stroller July 5, 2010 Zinnia (Columbia, MD) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have had this stroller (in black) for a few months now and have already traveled with it. My child is 8 months now, and we use this all the time over our heavy travel system. Overall, I think its a great lightweight stroller for the price. Here are the pro's and con's that I have found so far:
PROs
-very lightweight - my older child carried it like a breeze in airport
-has carrying strap, can be easily hauled through the airport
-closes easily - locks automatically catches when folded
-canopy provides good coverage from sun
-like the buckle cover - very comfortable fit for baby
-breathable material
-stands up on its own when closed, very handy in airport
-very easy to maneuver and push
-Handles are Great for tall or short people
CONs
-cap on handle keeps popping off, some parts seem flimsy - although this is not a vital part, its still annoying
-wheels don't handle rough surfaces like cobblestone very well
-no one hand recline - uses a drawstring that requires two hands and some maneuvering
-Can't reach basket very well when recline (but has pretty good side access, better than most umbrella strollers)
-so lightweight that anything hanging on handles could cause it to tip so be careful - same as any other umbrella stroller
Overall, very pleased. It is perfect for the use of a second stroller. Did a lot of research and am glad I chose this one. We get a lot of compliments too!
